Digital Erosion Simulation, 2021
CRT TV, monoblock chair, laserjet print on paper, urethane rubber, single channel video projection
Installation dimensions variable, projection 10’x7’
This video installation replicates a found photo of a TV, monoblock chair on the shoreline of an unknown beach. I found the photo on the internet while on a "virtual beach walk", wherein I type in variations of the phrase "washed up on the beach" into a search engine and browse the results. I then reassembled the photo in my studio with almost identical found objects with a video projection of the ocean at Point Arena, CA where a giant undersea cable connects to the land. This piece explores the porous divide between the digital and the physical, lost and found, original and representation, site and non-site. The beach, a place of elemental intersection acts as the metaphorical location where the digital and physical collide and the boundary is eroded.
