In the industrial farm landscape of central Nebraska, I marked the path of the sun across the sky and the simultaneous rotation of the earth around it. Over the course of one week, my own shadow cast from the same central point became object records of cosmic time on the dry, dusty harvested field.
From the Russian futurist opera Victory Over the Sun:
"Sun you bore our passions/ and scorched them with flaming beam/ We'll yank a dusty coverlet over you/ Lock you up in a concrete house!"
